Charity event for Mencía Foundation at Avenida Palace Hotel in Barcelona.
On June 6th the MENCIA Foundation, held a charity event at the Hotel Avenida Palace in Barcelona, whose benefits were around 35,000 euros that will finance a project at the Salk Institute in San Diego (USA) developed by Professor Juan Carlos IZPISÚA.
The event began with a few words from the president of the MENCÍA Foundation, Mrs. Isabel Lavín de la Cavada, who thanked the sponsors and collaborators who had made the celebration possible and the generosity of all the attendees for joining the cause of the MENCÍA Foundation.
Afterwards, the scientific talk began and the first paper was given by Dr. Françesc Palau, Director of the IPER (Pediatric Institute of Rare Diseases) of the Sant Joan de Barcelona Hospital, who highlighted the importance and necessity of research in all aspects of science, but specially in rare diseases, the forgotten ones, to continue advancing.
Next, Professor and Specialist in Biochemistry Dr. Fatima Bosch, expert in Gene Therapy, spoke about the great advances made by her group with San Filippo disease.
The two scientists put special emphasis on the relationship between the benefits of the results of research on rare diseases and the rest of the most prevalent diseases that affect us all.
The talk was ended by Mr. Borja García-Nieto, patron of the MENCÍA Foundation, recalling the importance of solidarity and the importance of leaving a better world for those who come behind.
As usual, at the Foundation’s events, the event concluded with a fantastic raffle and an auction of exclusive gifts donated for the occasion that was presented by the hotel’s host D. Juan Gaspart.
