On 26th November 2015, the first research project to be financed by the Mencía Foundation was launched at the Círculo Ecuestre in Barcelona.
Dr Ramón Martí and his research team are to run the project over an expected period of three years.
Mr Borja García-Nieto, patron of the Mencía Foundation, chaired the event and the speakers taking part were Mr Emilio Lora-Tamayo (President of the CSIC), Ms Isabel Lavín de la Cavada (President and Founder of the Mencía Foundation), Dr Ramón Martí (Head of Research in Neuromuscular and Mitochondrial Pathology at the Vall de Hebrón Hospital) and Dr Javier Torres (postdoctoral research scientist).
The audience featured eminent doctors and research scientists from the field of Genetic Diseases including Dr Francesc Palau, the head of Research into the Pathology of Rare Diseases (IPER) at Sant Joan de Deu Hospital; Dr Elena García Arumi, Dr Guillem Pintos and Dr Jaume Colomer, to mention but a few. They were joined by numerous friends of the patrons for the presentation and the cocktail party afterwards on the first floor of the illustrious building.
